WHY I’M RUNNING

Both my son and my daughter received a first-rate education here, and I want every student in our county to have that positive experience. Throughout their years at Beach Elementary, Windy Hill Middle, Northern High, and the culinary program at the Career and Technology Academy, my children had many wonderful teachers who ignited their excitement in learning. On the occasions I would visit their schools, you could always see how much their teachers enjoyed being in the classroom, and that joy was returned by their students.

My purpose in running for the Board of Education is to ensure these positive educational opportunities are possible for all students. I want every student in our county to experience the joy of learning that my own children had, one that sparks interest in the material being taught and inspires lifelong learning.

In addition to the personal passion I have as a parent for Calvert County Public Schools, my professional background provides me with the relevant qualifications and experience needed to be an effective school board member. As a Contracts Manager. I am adept at reviewing contracts, analyzing investments and costs, resource allocation, bidding processes, and accountability. I am adept at financial management, consensus building, negotiations, strategic planning, and managing details.

I want to promote and support the good work that the Board has done so far and the possibilities for the future that the Blueprint has shown. Looking at current policies, we have a great foundation for continued success with the CCPS system. I believe in the power and promise of public schools. I believe every student should have an excellent education, regardless of background, socioeconomic status or ability.

PURPOSE & PRIORITIES

In collaboration with other elected board members, I will:

• Advocate for equitable education
• Promote innovative teaching methods and technology
• Continue to review the policies to address the mental health challenges facing students and foster supportive policies
• Champion diversity and inclusion throughout the district;
• Work to improve school infrastructure, ensuring adequate resources, and addressing any disparities in school funding

Most importantly, I will work to strengthen the relationships between schools, students, teachers, support staff, parents, community members and elected officials, so we are all working together for the benefit of our students.

Being a member of the Board of Education requires considerable commitment. This includes intensive training, preparation for and attendance at all board meetings, meeting with County Commissioners, and attending school functions at all of our public schools. I am eagerly looking forward to learning everything I can and actively engaging with the school community.

I’m excited to work with purpose and possibilities for every student and family in the Calvert County Public Schools. I look forward to working with you as we move forward together.
